Virtual Tape Library (VTL) is a data storage virtualization technology used typically for archival storage purposes. In generic terms, a VTL presents a storage component (such as disk) as tapes available for use with tape drive and media changer emulations.
Virtualizing the storage as tape hardware allows integration of VTLs with existing archiving policies and backup software while taking advantage of the benefits of storage virtualization. The benefits of tape virtualization include storage consolidation and faster data restore processes.
VTL combines traditional tape backup methodology with low-cost disk technology ! to create an optimized backup and recovery solution. It is an intelligent disk-based library that emulates traditional tape devices and tape formats. Acting like a tape library with the performance of modern disk drives, data is deposited onto disk drives just as it would onto a tape library, only faster. Virtual tape backup solutions can be used as a secondary backup stage on the way to tape, or as their own standalone tape library solution.


Development Positions

You will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art technologies in the areas of network programming, file-systems, volume manager, RAIDs, advanced storage devices in SCSI, Fibre Channel, & TCP/IP communications.

Job Profile:
1) Responsible for design and development of NetApp VTL features and functionalities.
2) Fixing of issues ! found during test execution and the ability to drive those issues to closure with test team.
3) Work collaboratively with other engineers, and be willing to take on any engineering tasks that contribute to the progress towards the goals of the team and the company.
4) Participate in technical communication with customers and other parts of Network Appliance including marketing, customer support, and sales



Requirements:

Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
1) C/C++ in particular on Unix/Linux platforms.
2) Proficiency/experience with IPC, multi-threading, RPC programming
3) File-systems, Volume Managers, RAID, NAS/SAN, Backup Products understanding.
4) Knowledge of Networking Protocols: TCP-IP, FTP, Telnet, SNMP.
5) Knowledge of Storage protocols: SCSI, ISCSI, FCP will be added advantage.
6) Experience with GNU Development Tools
7) Experience with Object Oriented Design
8) System Administrati! on experience is a plus
9) Manage multiple priorities and tasks in a dynamic work environment




Experience: 4 - 10 years
